Housing and Residence Life is preparing for their busiest time in August, fall move-in, with over 8,000 Yellow Jackets returning to campus. The campus community should be mindful of potential traffic impacts and congestion

Fall move-in is right around the corner, and Housing and Residence Life (HRL), one of the largest departments within Student Engagement and Well-Being, is preparing to welcome over 8,000 students to campus. On Saturday, August 9, and Sunday, August 10, nearly 4,000 new residents, including first-year, transfer, and graduate students, will arrive on campus. From August 12–18, returning upper-class and graduate students will continue the move-in process. The campus community is advised to expect potential traffic impacts and congestion around the residential areas and campus during this time. "Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation as we make temporary traffic adjustments around campus. Your support plays a vital role in creating a warm, welcoming environment for our new and returning residents. We’re grateful for your flexibility in helping make their arrival a memorable one," said Dr. Jenny Cotton, Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life.   Beginning Saturday, August 9, here's what those coming to campus need to know:

  • Residents moving in will enter campus heading westbound on North Avenue and turn right on Tech Parkway to get to the back entrance of the Campus Recreation Parking Deck for check-in. There will be additional congestion on these routes; expect delays.
  • After check-in, residents will turn left onto Ferst Drive from the Campus Recreation Parking Deck and onto Techwood Drive for East Campus. Ferst Drive will remain open to traffic. Please use caution, as traffic lanes will shift. GTPD officers and volunteers will direct traffic on-site.
  • Expect additional delays and congestion throughout West Campus, on Techwood Drive, and Centennial Olympic Park Drive for East Campus and North Avenue move-in, and along Tenth Street for Graduate housing.

Additionally, drivers should abide by all posted signage, including parking notices and No Parking signs, as these areas are necessary for resident check-in, unloading, and short-term parking. These includes:

  • W10-Campus Recreation Deck
  • Alternative Parking: W02- Student Center Deck
  • ER54-North Ave. South Deck
  • Please park on Levels 2 and 3 only.
  • WR29 on-street parking, near Armstrong/Hefner Residence Halls
  • Alternative Parking: W31-IPST Lot
  • ER51 on-street parking, near Gray/Hayes Residence Halls
  • Alternative Parking: E52-Peters Deck
