Aloha Yellow Jackets,
We are less than a week from New Student Move-In, when we welcome the Class of 2028 to campus, before the new academic year begins August 19th. It appears the summer just flew by!
As you prepare for your arrival or return to campus, I just wanted to give you a sense of the physical environment that will greet you. There is a lot of energy and movement on campus – and we are excited about the prospect of all the new buildings that will be coming online in the near future, as well as the improvements being made to the campus’ physical infrastructure.
However, since Friday, July 26th, a chilled water outage has affected air conditioning in many buildings. We have several teams working around the clock to bring buildings back online. More information about Georgia Tech’s response to the chilled water emergency can be found online.
When you are on campus, please be prepared for more traffic congestion than usual. Some areas of campus have been cordoned off due to ongoing construction and the 24/7 repair efforts, as well as to support deployment of mobile chilling units. Please be sure to plan for some extra time to navigate campus and find parking. To help prepare, you can always check out the latest construction updates on the web.
In the meantime, over 30 buildings are without air conditioning; several have been closed to the public to support the health and welfare of Georgia Tech community members. Despite this, student services units are working under modified operations and will continue to meet our core mission. Visit the respective webpages of various campus programs and offices to determine how to access services, schedule appointments, or request support.
Residence halls and residential dining halls will continue to operate as usual. Retail outlets in the John Lewis Student Center are temporarily closed until further notice. However, other retail dining options are limited, but still available. You can visit the Tech Dining webpage to find out where you can grab a meal or beverage. These options will also be supplemented by additional food trucks located around campus.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced as a result of this chilled water emergency. We appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding during this time. The safety and well-being of our campus community is of utmost importance, and we are working to get this crisis resolved as quickly as possible. I will provide additional updates as warranted.
