Tips for Finishing the Semester Successfully

Aloha Yellow Jackets,

Happy Spring! I hope you were able to take some time off to relax during Spring Break. Whether you chose to travel away from Atlanta or enjoyed a staycation, it will be important for you to recharge and prepare for the remainder of the semester.

While Covid-19 rates have declined across the state, we need to keep in mind that the virus is still present (with the omicron's BA.2 subvariant increasingly becoming the predominant strain among new infections).  As such, it's essential that we each continue to do our part to ensure the health and safety of our community.

Everyone, regardless of vaccination or travel status, is strongly encouraged to get tested upon return to campus. There are several testing options available for all students, including those who are asymptomatic. Testing for students who are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms is available by appointment at Stamps Health Center, or symptomatic students can receive free rapid antigen at-home tests. To request an at-home test kit, visit this link and complete the request form.  I want to also remind you to remain diligent about using the daily checklist.

Whether you used Spring Break for fun, work, or both, regaining momentum is essential for successfully completing this semester. You should be proud: you’ve worked hard and persevered to the halfway point! And, taking care of yourself, as well as reaching out for help and support if you find yourself in distress, are core aspects of being a successful student.

I hope you will consider utilizing some of the valuable self-care tips below (provided by Health Initiatives) to support your mental health and well-being from multiple campus partners. Check out the Student Engagement & Well-Being website to learn more about the Georgia Tech programs and services available to support you.

While it may feel like it at times, you are not alone.  If you are looking for a way to find and connect with other Georgia Tech students, check out the activities and events hosted by the Student Center Programs Council. Sting Break, SCPC’s free spring student appreciation celebration, is next Thursday, March 31, from 6 – 10 p.m. on Tech Green and in the W21 parking lot.  I hope you’ll join us! Or if you need a safe space to let off steam or share your lived experiences, check out one of our identity-based student centers hosted by the Office of Diversity & Inclusion in Student Life.

Thank you for doing your part to take care of yourself and protect the health and safety of our entire community. And, if you see someone struggling, proactively help that individual connect with the resources to ensure their success.  Just saying, “How can I help?” can make a tremendous difference in another person’s life.

I wish you all the best as we head towards a successful conclusion to the 2021-2022 academic year!!

Sincerely,
